When you want to tie a chord member to another note but not the entire chord, add a temporary note of the correct pitch, highlight the chord and select tie. This will tie the desired note to the temporary note. Remove the temporary note and the tied note will find the next note of the same pitch. Audit the score for the tie to take effect.

This method will also allow you to create a tie for a note, such as a whole note over a rest, to a note of the same pitch in the next measure. This is the only way I've found to tie notes which are separated.
