If you have a SB AWE32, you can easily add samples to your music. In fact, you can devote one channel to samples, but change patches during playback.

To start off with a sample, choose Playback Instrument from Staff Properties, MIDI Tab. Then check the bank select box. Change that value to whatever bank your samples are loaded in (i.e. 1). Change "Patch list type" to "Numeric, 0 Based." This will match AWE32 Control Panel's listing of samples. That way, you can keep the AWE32 control panel on in the background to list your samples.

Put in a middle C note to play your sample. Make sure your sample bank is loaded, though. The great thing is that you can play scales with a sample, something very expensive pro samplers cannot do!

If you define your sample to be an instrument, you can play scales. If you choose to define your sample to an individual key, then every note on the staff could be a different sample. If you chose the first method, you can change samples (patches) midway through playback by going to Insert: Instrument patch. It all depends on how you set up your SoundFont bank. The nice thing is that you can change GM patches with the same method if you run out of channels!
