Adding Fingering to Scores |
|
| User Tip #: 37 Offered By: Bob Diebold Last Modified: N/A |
With the new version 1.5, you have a complete selection of fonts and sizes which can be applied as User Fonts for any purpose. Fingering on piano scores can be added as follows:
- Go to Page Setup, Fonts tab and set a User Font to an appropriate size and font (I find that Arial Narrow 7-point regular works well).
- Set the cursor to the left of the note or chord to be fingered.
- Go to Insert: Text, select your User Font, type your number.
- Under the Expression Placement tab, unclick the Preserve Width box and set the staff position (7 or 8 if the note or stem isn't above the staff -- vary it accordingly)
For chords, say a 1-3-5 fingering, enter the 1 then move the cursor 3 spaces upward and enter the 3, and repeat for the 5. They will show slightly offset on screen but will print directly over the note/chord.
For notes with sharps or flats the numbers will print over the accidental. This can be remedied by adding some space before the number, using the spacebar (e.g. "spacebar spacebar 3"), moving the number(s) to the right to print over the note.
Having once selected your User Font it remains in Insert: Text until you're done, so the process can be quite speedy, just entering the Staff Position and number desired.
