Carl Bangs
Bio:
I live in Fenwick Parva, a 3 acre (a bit more than a hectare) eden in the forests north of Spokane Washington. It is named in tribute to Grand Fenwick, Leonard Wibberly, Peter Sellars, and "The Mouse That Roared." It seems an appropriate name for a windows based little press.
As a musician, I am a conductor, composer, carillonneur, and hornist. In 1974 I started a chamber orchestra in Berkeley, California which I directed for 15 years. I also played horn on the streets of San Francisco and in many orchestras, directed choirs, and played the carillon at the University of California. I have also conducted orchestras in Spain, Russia, and China. I have recorded my music, as well as other composers' with the National Opera and Ballet Orchestra in Beijing.
I own Fenwick Parva Press which publishes a lot of carillon music and whatever else I feel like. My own pieces constitute only a small part of the catalog. All of it is produced using Noteworthy, a program in which I have at least invested a lot of time.
The population of Fenwick Parva consists of my wife, Beth, and me, a number of raccoons, deer, skunks, rodents and other transient fauna, including our grown twins. Jennique lives in Boston where she works for Gunther Schuller, and Ian who lives in Seattle. The flora of Fenwick Parva is dominated by 100 foot pine, tamarack, and Douglas fir trees. We also grow some tasty mushrooms.
My time is spent in studying, composing and private teaching, with an occasional foray into the world to conduct. I have had to limit my performing to the things I really want to do to accommodate the limitations accompanying multiple sclerosis. It is nice to have an excuse not to do things I really didn't want to do anyway.
