Workaround for the problem discussed in nwcforum article #4699
Measure 1 shows the problem, 2 the solution, 3 for dbl time.
Keep the invisible rests well away from the beams as they affect beam length.

Layer these 2 staves:

Hey, that's a good idea. You could also use a simple text (User1, ".", Times New Roman, 19pt) and have the music play on an invisible staff. Something like the following clip.

On my machine it looks almost as good as the original on print preview, and you wouldn't have to fiddle around with layering two staffs, which can be very time consuming. It depends on how picky you are, I guess. Perhaps one can experiment a little more and get it even better, using a different font, and perhaps some other character besides an ordinary period. Haven't tried that.

The following is a work around for Preview 1y and later:

Looks like they fixed it in today's update. Work damn fast, this lot =)

Even better. :-)

I guess you don't have to tie the grace note to the 1/16 note either.

Peter Edwards gives another example in reply 27 in nwcforum article #4699.

Easy workaround with a layer, but the larger issue is how much incorrect music is sitting in musicians' folders? (and how often has a note been played at the wrong time?)

Another example, from article #433. To fix it, hide the notes with the offending flags and layer with:

Finding these things seems a worse problem than fixing them.
