problem with adding staffs

I have no problem with adding and assigning instruments for 9 staffs but when I try to assign my 10th staff to an instrument, it automaticlly changes that the drum kit where each note is a different drum. Now all of my songs have to have less than 9 staffs. Is there any setting that I might have accidentilly put on. Any suggestions?

You have stumbled on channel 10, which is the percussion channel. The forum is rife with channel 10-issues, and the solution is easy: press F2 for the 10th staff, select the Midi tab, and select another channel.
