Keyboard Guide

The following are the quick key lists for use in NoteWorthy Composer 2. When the words Up, Down, Left, or Right are used in the key chart, they refer to the four arrow keys on the keyboard.

Common Editor Shortcuts

The following quick keys are generally available when editing a score:

Alt+F8Used to invoke or configure User Tools
Ctrl+Alt+F8Repeats the last User Tool that was executed
EnterAdds a note at the insertion point
EnterAdds a note at the insertion point
SpaceAdds a rest at the insertion point
Ctrl+EnterAdds a chord member at the insertion point
Alt+EnterOpens a property dialog for the currently selected item(s)
TabAdds a standard bar line at the insertion point
*Adds a standard bar line at the insertion point
[Adds a multi-measure rest at the insertion point
]Add a boundary change at the insertion point
InsertAdd space before the insertion point
1Selects a whole note for the running note duration
2Selects a half note for the running note duration
3Selects a quarter note for the running note duration
4Selects a eighth note for the running note duration
5Selects a sixteenth note for the running note duration
6Selects a thirty-second note for the running note duration
7Toggles the natural sign for note entry
8Toggles the flat sign for note entry
9Toggles the sharp sign for note entry
!Toggles the accent note attribute
;Toggles the outbound slur note attribute

Toggles the note tie outward status for note entry

Cycles through the possible note highlight colors

Cycles the dotted note status for note entry. Will also cycle the double dot if it appears next to the dot in a tool bar.
Shift+UpToggles the upward note stem attribute
Shift+DownToggles the downward note stem attribute
<Toggles the graphic/hairpin Crescendo note attribute
>Toggles the graphic/hairpin Diminuendo note attribute
B,bAdds a styled standard bar line at the insertion point
C,cAdds a bass or treble clef
D,dAdds dynamics such as ppp or mf
E,eAdds tempo variances, such as fermata and accel.
F,fAdds flow direction symbols such as To Coda
G,gAdds a time signature designation
I,iAdds a change of instrument
K,kAdds a key signature
L,lAdds a generic MIDI controller
M,mOpens a mute list for the current score
P,pAdds a performance style, such as Legato
Q,qCycles through available noteheads during note input
R,rReview the score in a list format
S,sAdds special endings
T,tAdds tempo designations
U,uAdds sustain pedal symbols
X,xAdds a text expression of your choice
Y,yAdds dynamic variance, such as crescendo
Alt+BackspacePerforms an Undo operation
Ctrl+FFind items on the staff
F3Find the next item on the staff
Ctrl+VPastes the contents of the clipboard
Shift+Ctrl+VStarts a new file with the contents of the clipboard
Ctrl+ACreate a new staff
Ctrl+DRemove the current staff
Ctrl+GMoves the insertion point to a measure that you specify
Ctrl+NCreate a new score
Ctrl+OOpens an existing score file
Ctrl+SSaves the currently active score
Ctrl+YPerforms a Redo of a previous Undo operation
Ctrl+ZPerforms an Undo operation
F9Redraws (refresh) the active score
Ctrl+F9Redraws (refresh) the active staff
0Clears the note accidental, tie, and dot status parameters
+Shifts the running note duration to next larger duration
-Shifts the running note duration to next smaller duration
HomeMoves the insertion point to the beginning of the active staff
Ctrl+HomeChanges the active staff to the first staff in the system
EndMoves the insertion point to the end of the active staff
Ctrl+EndChanges the active staff to the last staff in the system
Ctrl+Right ArrowMoves the insertion point forward to the next measure
Ctrl+Left ArrowMoves the insertion point backward to the nearest bar line
Shift+L/R ArrowSelects notation as the insertion point moves
Page UpShifts the active staff upward
Page DownShifts the active staff downward

F1Shows this help file
F4Records MIDI input while the current score is played
Shift+F5Plays just the active staff (featured play of the current staff)
F5Plays the active score
Shift+F6Pauses the currently playing score

Ctrl+F6Switches to the previous score window
F11Toggles Viewer Mode in the editor

Common Shortcuts While Editing Existing Selected Notation

The following keys are available when notation has been selected:

Menu keyBrings up a context menu
Alt+Enter
Ctrl+E
Opens a property dialog for the currently selected item(s)
Ctrl+XCuts the selection and places it in the clipboard
Ctrl CCopies the selection into the clipboard
Ctrl+DelClears the selection
Ctrl+BBeams the selected notes
Ctrl+TConverts the selected notes into triplets
BackspaceRemoves the currently selected notes
Shift+Ctrl+DownShifts the selection downward on the staff
Shift+Ctrl+UpShifts the selection upward on the staff

Common Shortcuts While Editing Existing Notation without Selection

These commands do specific things when notation is not currently selected:

Menu keyBrings up a context menu
Ctrl+LOpens the lyric editor dialog for the active staff
DeleteDeletes the notation item to the right of the insertion point
BackspaceDeletes the notation item to the left of the insertion point
Ctrl+BackspaceDeletes the chord member just behind the insertion point
Ctrl+UpMoves the insertion point up by an octave
Ctrl+DownMoves the insertion point down by an octave
Shift+Ctrl+DownShifts the running note duration to next smaller duration
Shift+Ctrl+UpShifts the running note duration to next larger duration
F2Open the Staff Properties dialog

Property Sheet Shortcuts

These keys are available when you are inside a property dialog box (where tabs are present):

Ctrl+Page DownAdvances to the next tab
Ctrl+Page UpAdvances to the previous tab
Alt+HomeJumps to the first tab
Ctrl+TabAdvances to the next tab
Ctrl+Shift+TabAdvances to the previous tab
